Ross A. Keene

Moving People Forward

Mr. Keene’s practice is concentrated in the areas of marital and family law, appeals, and mediation.  His family law practice encompasses all aspects of family law, including dissolution of marriage and modification proceedings, alimony, timesharing, child support, distribution of assets and identification of non-marital assets, marital agreements, paternity, dependency, and contempt and enforcement proceedings. Mr. Keene is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and has developed a reputation as a results-oriented family law mediator.

Spanning over 30 years, Mr. Keene also has extensive appellate practice experience in numerous areas of the law, including direct and temporary appeals in the substantive areas of criminal, family, and civil law. Mr. Keene also represents clients in original proceedings in state and federal courts involving writs of mandamus, prohibition, certiorari, and habeas corpus. He has appeared and argued before numerous federal and state appellate courts throughout the U.S., including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th and 11th Circuits, the Florida Supreme Court, and extensively before Florida’s First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee: the Court handling Circuit Court appeals from the Florida Panhandle.

A native of the Midwest, Mr. Keene attended law school and began the practice of law in Chicago, where he worked for a boutique First Amendment and media law firm handling appeals, litigation, and pre-publication libel review for several national media corporations. Mr. Keene later relocated to Washington, D.C., where he worked in the litigation department of a national law firm on cases involving transportation, maritime, and commercial litigation. Ross has been practicing law in Pensacola since 1998, focusing almost exclusively in the area of marital and family law, appeals, and mediation.

Mr. Keene is admitted to practice in Florida, Illinois, and the District of Columbia; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th, 11th, and D.C. Circuits; and the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, Northern District of Illinois, District of Columbia, and Eastern District of Wisconsin. Mr. Keene received his B.A. in English and History from the University of Iowa and his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He has served as a speaker on appellate practice issues pertaining to record preservation, family law and criminal appeals. He has authored “The Threat of Multiple Prosecutions as Prior Restraint,” published in the Federal Bar News and Journal.  He is a member of the Appellate and Family Law Sections of the Florida Bar, the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association, and previously served as Chapter Representative for the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (2006-2008), and President of the Society of Criminal Defense Bar, Florida Panhandle Chapter (2004-2005).  Mr. Keene has previously served as President and Board Member of Ballet Pensacola; President of the Children’s Council at Pensacola’s First United Methodist Church, where he also taught Sunday school, and has recently served as member of the Board of Directors at East Hill Christian School in Pensacola. Ross comes from a family of  “die hard” Chicago Cubs fans and is still euphoric over the Cubs' World Series victory in 2016.
